Full calf - gilt leather tooling on front and back boards. A combination original binding of the boards and contemporary binding of the spine. Five raised bands on spine with 3 black leather labels and gilding. Some discoloration of the beige leather where the two join. Gilded dentelle on inside edge. llustrated with 6 full page engravings from the designs of Rich Westall, Esq. on thick paper. Also a vignette engraving on the title page. 377 pages with cxxviii pages of notes at back, plus 8 pages of ads at very back. Some offsetting opposite the plates, otherwise the paper is in wonderful condition. Great marbled endpapers. Speckled page edges. 8vo 8 5/8" x 5 3/4". Binding worn to boards at tips. First edition was in Edinburgh, 1808. VG.
