Illustrated with a frontispiece and with many full-page illustrations done by the author. Foreword by Lin Yutang. Commentary and notes by Robert C. North. A biography of Siao-Yu's time with Mao Se-Tung while they were students in the city of Changsha in the Hunan province. Siao-Yu describes the summer of 1917, a summer he spent begging and travling with Mao. The narrative describes the different types of people they met and their impressions of them, and the differences between rich and poor Chinese citizens.
