This diary of a schoolteachers' wife, from the commencement of her married life at a small southwest school in 1932 through to her husband's retirement in 1971 has all the qualities of a gentle novel. The reader inevitably becomes involved in the personal life of the little family as it increases and moves from one school to another. A delightful story, set against a backdrop of detailed descriptions of the country towns and communities in the South-West and Wheatbelt towns of Western Australia. Towns mentioned include Group Settlement 123 Hillbrook, Mukinbudin, Westonia, Nukari, Bullaring, Bruce Rock, Big Bell, Northam, Albany, Toodyay and Collie.
