Exemplaire à très grandes marges en cartonnage d'attente de l'époque. - - - - Possibly the first edition of this libertine epistolary novel, by Claude-Joseph Dorat (1734-80). Dorat's works were frequently finely-illustrated at his own expense - he was left a fortune by an aunt - and this one carries two exquisite frontispieces by de Longeuil after F.M. Queverdo. There were numerous later editions, including reprints in modern times. Martin, Mylne & Frautschi, Bibliographie du genre romanesque français, 72.19.
