Item description from seller

viii, 350 pages. Footnotes. Book 1 ONLY. The book has some fading on the cover especially along the spine. Ink notation inside front cover. Previous owner's stamp and mailing label on fep. This is one of The Dryden Press Publications in History. This is an anthology edited by Sheehan. Harcourt Brace Jovanovich acquired the educational arm of Holt, Rinehart and Winston, Saunders, and the Dryden Press in 1985 from CBS, and it retained the Holt, Rinehart and Winston name. This contains works by Charles Andrews, Francis Parkman George Louis Beer, Carl Becker, Charles Beard, Henry Adams, Frederick Jackson Turner, James Parton, Arthur M. Schlesinger, Jr, Ulrich Phillips, Marcus Lee Hanson, John Commons, and Howard Beale. Among the topics coverer are Colonization, French and Indian War, Colonial Policy, Trade Laws, Constitution, American Revolutions, Nationalism, Democracy, Western Frontier, Andrew Jackson, Southern Plantations, Migration, Immigrants, Labor Movement, and the Civil War. This anthology was offered in the hope that it would form a useful supplement to textbooks in American history. Significant excerpts have been culled from outstanding studies of several generations of outstanding scholarship and combined in a way that illuminates significant aspects of American government and society. Students of American history should have some understanding of the integrated process of learning and some idea of how current concepts have developed over time.
