First Edition of Torrens' revision of the general regulations for field exercise and movement of the British army ".[I]t was deemed necessary by the Commander-in-Chief to take advantage of a period of peace for re-establishing uniformity, by prescribing to the Army a regulated system; which, while it rests on the leading principles introduced by Sir David Dundas, shall combine the additional formations, with the increased celerity in the mode of executing all movements, which have been partially practised for the last few years."
