Paris, Printed at the Lecram Press ('Published for Subscribers Only'), 1929. Quarto, xxxiv, 438 pages. Dark red cloth; top edge gilt; spine sunned (the sides a little unevenly so); leading and bottom edges lightly marked; tiny light stain near the bottom inside corner of eight consecutive leaves near the middle of the book; free endpapers heavily offset (with a short marginal tear to the rear one expertly sealed); a very good copy. This 'Subscriber's Edition' is the first cased edition, using sheets from the first issue (comprising four parts in wrappers, with one colour plate). Crowley was dissatisfied with the quality of the binding and the colour plate, and the bulk of the edition was reissued in the present format, minus the plate. Seller Inventory # 142552

Seller: Clearwater Books, London, United Kingdom
Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. Possibly the first American edition, or at least a very early reprint, in the required blue cloth with gilt lettering. 8vo. xxvii, 436pp. Blue cloth lettered in gold at the spine and with the publisher's blue top edge stain. Head and tail bands. Several quite small areas of tape residue marking to the free endpapers. A very good copy in very good price-clipped dust wrapper, lightly rubbed at the spine panel ends and at one or two corner tips. There is some considerable debate about the order of these assorted undated Castle Books editions, the first of which marked the first US edition of a text originally published in Paris in 1929. This example would appear to conform to the requirements of the first edition but it is not possible to ascertain this for absolute certain. Seller Inventory # SPE90689
