Item description from seller

First printing. Mustard yellow oversized in illustrated softcovers. 176 pp. A substantial collection of the forceful, Dickensian pen & ink reproductions of early twentieth century illustrator Joseph Clement Coll. Known primarily for magazine work during a time with illustrations had been largely replaced by photographs, Coll developed a reputation for drawing from memory rather than reference, with a bold, imaginative style. Most of his association was with Collier's Magazine, where his imagination found an ideal outlet accompanying the mystery stories of A. Conan Doyle, Edgar Wallace, and Sax Rohmer's Fu Manchu narratives.
