This is a restored first edition with new endpapers and a new page one, bound in and repaired by hand by the Bookbinder E. Hamilton of Oxford. "Spine cleaned and all broken sections re-sewn. A hollow back covered with strong lining paper to which the spine lining could be attached. That lining consists of red book-cloth which strengthened the damaged spine at the top and bottom. Corners re-shaped and strengthened. Cloth on the front and back re-attached as far as possible. The book re-inserted into its old cover. It remains fragile, especially in both front and back spine-groves. Nevertheless, this is better than a re-backing, thus preserving an original First Edition." The red cloth is darkened on the spine but the gilt on the front cover is still quite bright and is preserved on the top edge. The other page edges have been cleaned. There is a little soiling throughout and the original owner had coloured in many of Millar's pictures quite nicely, with watercolour, as well as leaving his or her name on the flyleaf. A hard to find good quality book that is a genuine first edition. Seller Inventory # 001492
