Illustrated softcover, 'Magazine Programme', for the Alderley Edge Amateur Dramatic Society production of 'Berkeley Square', by John Balderston in conjunction with, 'Manchester Amateur Dramatic Society. Friday and Saturday 17th and 18th March 1933'. The cover is an original Art Deco stencil in black and gold on grey fibrous paper, with stylised art deco lettering by Bernard Church, an artist known for his paintings of ships which were reproduced as postcards during the 1930's. The strikingly modern cover is in stark contrast to the world represented within the pages of the magazine. The avant-garde design and emphatically modern typography is the antitheses of the contents, which is of an unchanging provincialism about to undergo the process of change. A near fine copy.
