First edition, first printing. Publisher's original burgundy cloth and gilt titles to the spine, in dustwrapper. Illustrated with a frontispiece and 13 black and white photographs. A better than very good copy, the binding firm and square, with a little bumping to the spine ends and slight bow to the rear board. The contents, with a small bookseller's sticker to the front pastedown and some foxing to the closed text block, are otherwise clean throughout and free from inscriptions. Complete with the rubbed, creased, nicked and lightly toned dustwrapper, that has a few short closed tears to the front panel. Price clipped to the front flap. An account of the author's journey through Malaya and Siam, describing Siamese culture and daily life, his time in Bangkok and adventures in the jungle. Just a touch of shelf/edge wear to maroon cloth boards with gilt titles-corners sharp. Minor shelf/edge wear and a bit of chipping and light soiling to unclipped DJ-now in mylar. (NOTE: my DJ is a creme color with a red illustration and red and black titles --not a blueish tone like the picture). Previous owner name on inside front cover, no notes-all pages are bright, clean and crisp. Author's observations of Siam in the 1950's include poking around the back streets of Bangkok, visiting an opium den and exploring the jungle where he stays with a primitive tribe of hill people and is nearly killed by wild elephants. 13 illustrations plus map.
