Item description from seller
pp: 371 [2]. Pictorial card covers. The book was inspired by the many wedding photographs studied by the author during her genealogical research into the pioneer Polish settlements in Ontario. It contains many of these photos throughout the text. Connolly uses these photos as a basis for her study of marriage customs and rites in parts of the old country, and in the Polish Kashub pioneer settlements of Ontario. She discusses arranged marriages, and matchmaking, and the importance of these customs to preserve the Polish Kashub culture. She also talks about several related elements in marriage; the age of the bride and groom, parental approval, the size of families, marriage breakups, marriage outside the Catholic faith, marriage with other nationalities, and changes in the ceremonies caused by conditions in the new world. This is a fine, unread copy.
