Published in a small and limited print run as a hardcover original only. There is no ISBN. The Limited Edition is now rare. A brilliant production by Marten Jongema and Liesbeth van Warmerdam: Regular-sized volume format. Purple velvet boards with titles embossed on the cover, as issued. Dances by Mark Morris. Photographs by various contributors. Text by Joan Acocella, Gert Bakx, and Noicole Renggli. Biographies and List of Dances and Dancers appended at the end. Printed on pristine-white, thick coated stock paper in Brussels, Belgium to the highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Presents Mark Morris' "Monnaie Dance Group". The now-classic dances created by Mark Morris and performed by his company for the Theatre Royal de la Monnaie. Morris was named Dance Director in 1988, succeeding the revered Maurice Bejart (whom Morris despised, and dismissed, as a corrupt hack). The Mark Morris Dance Company's stint in relatively staid Belgium was one of the most controversial and tumultuous in the history of modern dance. And yet, in spite of the obvious problems they faced, it was also one of the most productive in the company's history. It helped a lot that Mark Morris enjoyed the unequivocal support of legends like Mikhail Baryshnikov, who performed as a regular member of the company, and powerful musical giants like Deborah Voigt, Riccardo Muti, Philippe Herreweghe, and James Maddalena, among many others. Some of the dances committed for posterity in the book include such masterpieces as "New Love Song Waltzes", "L'Allegro, Il Penseroso ed Il Moderato", still his single most famous work, and "Stabat Mater", among many other now-canonical dance pieces. An absolute "must-have" title for Mark Morris collectors. This is a copy of the Limited Edition, whose limitation is not stated. This title is a great collection. As far as we know, this is the only copy of the Limited Edition available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. A rare copy thus. Lavishly illustrated with black-and-white plates. The greatest American choreographer of our time. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER MARK MORRIS TITLES IN OUR CATALOG).…
