Pinkham's Vegetable Compound was a best-selling remedy for menstrual complaints, thanks in large part to aggressive marketing. Advertisements urged women to write to Mrs. Pinkham. Written answers combined forthright talk about women's medical issues, advice, and, of course, recommendations for the company product.
