Quarto. A scarce history of early West Virginia, carved out of northwestern Virginia during the Civil War when Union sentiment overrode the prevailing Confederate loyalties throughout the rest of the state. Original leather with elaborate gilt titling and decor to front board with gilt titling to spine. Top edge gilt. Moderate rubbing and edge wear to binding, more so to spine. Front hinge starting but reasonably tight, with no hinge showing. Sporadic foxing with offsetting from tissue guard to title page. Overall a handsome edition of a scarce work, more so in a leather binding. Seller Inventory # 15574
