First single volume deluxe edition, first printing, published by George Allen & Unwin in 1969. Black covers with beautiful gilt, silver and green decoration to the front, based on a drawing by the author, gilt lettering to the spine, speckled page edges, patterned endpapers, two fold out maps, pages printed on fine India paper. Slipcase with a few marks, some wear to the edges, plus a dint to one corner and edge, not affecting the book, possibly some light touch ups to the slipcase. Book with bright gilt decorations, square, securely bound, the back cover has some faint marks, previous ownership name blind stamped to the half title, small mark to the title page, pages a touch toned, but are otherwise clean and smart, complete with both fold out maps. Good slipcase, good + to very good book. Printed on fine India paper, 1193 pages. Will be carefully bubble wrapped and packed in a box.
