About this Item

Early 3 volume set of Lord of the Rings. As we are not experts on the minutia of first edition books and dust jackets please bear with. 2 hours of online sleuthing is enough! Please ask questions if need to. We bought these 30 years ago from the estate of a woman that was in charge of the Childrens section in a very large library. Either Houghton sent them to her or she bought them on her own. They appear to never have been read and were never in any kind of circulation. All 3 say printed in Great Britain in caps on copy right page. We believe Fellowship is the 7th edition. The jacket matches the 1st state edition and is not priced. Photo to rear straight bottom. Page 424 has no colophen and page 76 morning is not nicked. The Two Towers seems to be a fifth edition ink on jacket seems black. Jacket price $5.00. No date on title page. Dates on copyright page both 1955 and seems to be variant 2 of the 5th printing. The Return of the King we are confident is the 1st printing. Jacket has the large 5 in price and 2 lines thru dollar sign. Page 281 men has space page 49 has 4 at bottom. Books all pristine inside with no markings. Jackets have a little damage along top edges. Towers has a small divit on the spine. Books are near fine. Will have more pics than we can put on Abe. Seller Inventory # 2290
