First Edition ('First Published September 1943'). The covers are in pretty remarkable condition. This is, after all, a novel written for young people that was published in 1943. Take a look at the photographs. There's no soiling. The illustration on the front cover and lettering on the spine are both very bright. There is just about no wear, a little crinkling at the spine ends, tiny loss of color at the corners. The book is very solidly bound throughout. There are no binding issues. The pages are exceptionally clean. I didn't see any soiling at all. They're also in excellent condition, no creasing, no dogeared corners. There aren't any markings or attachments. There is a penned name ('Jewel Bode, Christmas 1943') at the top right-hand corner of the first front end paper. There is no writing of any kind to be found anywhere else in the book. The dust jacket gets credit for its excellent condition. It does appear to have run a little interference. It has a couple of tears off the top and bottom edges of the spine.That has resulted in tiny losses there as well. There is also a very tiny hole on the middle edge between the front cover and front flap. And there are a handful of other tiny to small edge tears on the jacket. All that being said, take a look at the photographs, the jacket presents fairly well. It is clean. And the flaps are in very good condition, very clean, a bit of top edge wear, no tears. The jacket is NOT price-clipped, not clipped at all. I've had it in a fitted protective cover for as long as I've owned the book. Seller Inventory # 001951
