Rickards, color frontispiece from a painting by Arnold Bennett. Rebound in 1938 by Reese Carlile David, with wood inlay pictorial wooden boards, leather spine with six bands, stamped in gilt, top edge gilt, leather end leaves. Housed in a custom slip case with leather edges, marbled paper covered boards, lined in green felt. Inscribed to half-title:Presented to Dr. Joseph L. Miller, M. D./of Thomas, W. Va./By Reese Carlile David/Craftsman in Bookbinding/Aug, 27-1938. With gift inscribed postcard:8-21-90/Dear Larry, To start your A. Bennett collection. I knew I was holding on to this for a reason… Nina; and with additional TLS from bookbinder Oliver G. Boyd to fellow bookbinder Reese C. David laid-in. From the collection of Larry McMurtry, at his home in Archer City, Texas. His book, with personal brand-mark bookplate. . Spine chipped and peeled with areas of loss; the last leaf, in leather, is adhering to rear leather pastedown; slipcase abraded, with leather loss to edges, leather top and spine chipped and peeled, spine seam cracked, top panel separated entirely, felt lightly soiled to fore-edge; A very good copy (and a completely unique overall package) in a somewhat damaged slipcase.
