In the same format as the popular "Living Large in Small Spaces", "Live/Work" by Deborah K. Dietsch is full of innovative and inspired ideas for incorporating work into the home. The home office or business can be many things - writing desk, painter's studio, recording booth, architect's draft board, reading room, sanctuary - but the two dozen home offices profiled in "Live/Work" all have one thing in common: extraordinary design. Some of the spaces profiled are huge, taking up entire floors on their own, while others are cleverly tucked away in backyards or rebuilt garages. More than mere bill-paying desks or temporary work areas, these creative spaces have been carved out by some of the most progressive architects and designers in the world. The aesthetic tone of these offices ranges from classical to ultramodern, but the balance between life and work is completely natural.
About the Author: Deborah K. Dietsch has been the editor-in-chief of Architecture magazine and the executive editor of Architectural Record. She currently writes, in a freelance capacity, on art, architecture and design for several major newspapers and magazines. Sarah Susanka's 'build better, not bigger' approach to residential design has been embraced across America and her 'Not So Big' philosophy has sparked international dialogue. Susanka is a registered architect, a member of the College of Fellows of the American Institute of Architects and is a certified interior designer.
