Three books rescued from the Lodz ghetto 1942 with ghetto designated location stamps on each of the three books, very rare to find Polish ghetto literature that has survived from this second largest of all the Polish ghettos. 1942 was the year of deportation and one wonders how these books missed being torched. Books kept in rough condition as found rather than tidy up. Lot inlcudes: Piotr Choynowski, a popular Polish short story writer, Kij w Mrowisku (Stick in the Anthill, nd, possibly 1930); Jack London, Przygoda (The Adventure, Krakow, 1926); and Marjusz Zaruski, Na Morzach Dalekich (Pages from a Sailor's Storage Room, on distant seas, Warsaw, 1920). One can only imagine anxious and stressed humble ghetto captives reading this material for escapist value. Good, Polish text. Purchased in Warsaw and sold as a lot.
