This erudite examination of undergarments begins with the controversial corset. Why have corsets made a comeback in modern fashion? Does the trend mark a return to an idealised female form; is it simple an ironic post-modern play on traditional sexual values; or even a sign of how fetish imagery has gone mainstream?
The bra likewise comes under scrutiny in a witty appraisal of its iconic appeal. Panties, stockings and suspenders; slips, peignoirs, teddies, camisoles, and athletic-inspired vests and briefs are all dissected in this fascinating study of lingerie.
