First edition. Volume I only. Quarto. 708pp. Illustrated with highly finished steel engravings from original designs of historical scenes, and full length portraits by Alonzo Chappel. Very good in three quarter leather with five raised bands, cloth covered boards, all edges gilt, marbled endpaper, leather is scuffed on the raised bands and corners, frontispiece of Washington and his horse with the glassine missing, light tideline on page edges.
