In 1843 when the Canadian Geological Survey was organized, he was appointed its director, and he continued to direct its activities until 1869. He revolutionized the current conceptions of Canadian geology; and in 1851 he was, in recognition of his work, elected a fellow of the Royal Society of London. In 1856 he was created a knight bachelor, and was D.C.L. of Bishop's College, Lennoxville, 1855 and an LL.D. of McGill University, 1856. - Wallace. D.C.B. Still a standard reference work on Logan. Our last copy was in catalogue 176. 8vo., 23cm, first London edition, xv,432p., steel engraved frontis portrait, 29 woodcut plates and illustrations, appendices, index, original black decorated dark olive green cloth, gilt spine titles, some slight foxing on the preliminaries, some slight wrinkling on the spine cloth, very good sound copy of the scarce London first edition.
