Add to basketFirst Edition (SD, Dodd, Mead= SD). You can see the covers in the photos. I don't see any soiling. There is tanning at the margin edges and over the whole of the spine. Nevertheless, the lettering on the spine is quite bright. The gilt lettering and design on the front is also quite bright. There is wear at both spine ends. At the top one there are several small tears and two small spots of rub-through. At the bottom one a tiny bit of rub-through and some crinkling. There is a bit of a rough edge over part of the area where the spine meets the front cover. It seems likely that the spine lifted up a little bit and was glued back down. The cover edges are in solid shape. The two top ones are color faded to tan. The four corners have only a very small spots of rub-through. The top page edges look clean. The middle and bottom page edges are deckled or rough-cut. They did a good job, there are only a small number of pages that have a little jaggedness in slivers of loss at their middle edge. The book is square and the spine is straight. The binding is solid. However, I did find a handful of instances of a thin space at the juncture between facing pages. All of these pages are tightly bound from top to bottom. There is also a very thin vertical split in the paper at the juncture between the front inside cover and front end paper, but the front cover is quite tightly bound. The rear cover does not have a tear at its juncture with the rear end paper, and is also quite tightly bound. Although the pages do not appear to be soiled, a good number of them have light to moderate amber spotting or foxing. The foxing is most evident on the pages that face the illustrations ( photographs) which are on glossy paper. The illustration pages themselves mostly have only very light spotting at their white margins. Scrolling through, I'm not finding any creasing on the pages. There is a small loss at the top corner of the blank front end paper. I didn't see any other losses. I didn't see any edge tears. There are 451 pages so I may have missed something inconspicuous. There are no markings in the book. There are no attachments of any kind. There is a penned name and date on the blank front end paper (Claudia McA. Whitney, Xmas 1922). There is no other writing to be found anywhere in the book. 'Beatrice Rose Stella Tanner, better known by her stage name Mrs. Patrick Campbell or Mrs. Pat, was an English stage actress, best known for appearing in plays by Shakespeare, Shaw and Barrie.' She has a fairly long Wikipedia profile you can check out.
