Extra illustrated with 16 name-captioned character portraits after drawings by Joseph Kenny Meadow. The frontispiece is not listed in the "List of Plates" and does not have the Chapman & Hall imprint. Three of the first four plates have the Chapman & Hall imprint. Text has "sister" for "visitor", line 17 p. 123; "latter" for "letter", line 43 p. 160; "flys" for "flies", line10 p. 245; "visiters" for "visitors", line 2 p. 272. Victorian old half brown calf & early brown cloth. Good with some wear & front joint rehinged retaining original back-strip. Sheets & extra 16 Meadow plates clean, the 18 Phiz plates browned around the edges as usual. Old engraved small bookplate on front paste down endpaper & signature John Fletcher Oxford 1858.
