Add to basketFirst edition, first impression, of John Edensor Littlewood's three principles of real analysis. Littlewood (1885-1977) is regarded as "one of the greatest English mathematicians of the first half of the twentieth century" (ODNB). He was acting Rouse Ball Professor of Mathematics from 1928 until 1950. Provenance: V. W. D. Hale, Trinity College, Cambridge, with his bookplate and pen inscription. Hale completed his dissertation on Quasi-groups and loops associated with Steiner systems in 1952. Littlewood was elected to a fellowship at Trinity College in 1908 and, excepting a brief period during the First World War, lived in a set of rooms in the college from 1912 until his death. Quarto. Original blue cloth, spine lettered in gilt. With dust jacket. Spine ends a little sunned, single blue ink mark on p. 34, a few pencil annotations; jacket unclipped, spine toned, loss at ends, joints and head of rear panel professionally repaired with archival tape, edges nicked and chipped: a very good copy in good jacket.
