About this Item

Description:

1869. First edition. 89pp. No author is given for this scarce criticsim in verse of the poetry of the 1860s. The author states that the reader of the verses is desired to consider them not so much an attack as a defence. He is primarily concerned with poetry in the style of Tennyson and Browning and writes "there is a generasl Alfred Tennyson and a not quite so general Robert Browning; and that there is a particular Mr. Tennyson and a particular Mr. Browning. He endeavours in these pages yto give reasons for taking exception with the two former alone." The book is bound in the original green cloth covered boards with gold titling on the front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with some expected shelf wear and soiling on the boards. There is also some staining on the front board, mostly near the spine. The spine ends and corners are lightly bumped and there is a light dent on the top and bottom edges of the front board. The contents are tight and clean with no inscription.
