The firsthand combat journal kept by 21-year-old Marine corporal Martin Russ during his 1952–1953 tour of duty with the 1st Marine Division in the Korean War. Compiled from pocket notebooks recorded in forward trenches, bunkers, and night patrols along the 38th Parallel, Russ provides a raw, ground-level account of trench warfare, mortar attacks, recon skirmishes, and the brutal psychological conditions endured during the final year of the conflict leading up to the Panmunjom armistice.
