"The profound impression caused by the Pittsburg Riots in 1877, when the fate of several states and particularly the State of New York, were suspended by a single hair, induced the New York State Bar Association to offer a premium of $250 gold, for the best Essay or Thesis on 'The legal relations of Capital and Labor, the right of the State to interfere between Employer and Employed.' To be written by a member of the New York Bar of five years standing." (from the preface). Scarce. *OCLC* locates no copies.
