Item description from seller

Octavo: 192 p. Original stiff red paper wrappers, with gilt stamping on the front panel and a natural cloth spine. Light toning to the contents, with minor staining to p.164-5. A few tiny spots to the fore-edge. The wrappers are a bit edgeworn, some mild creasing to the front panel; otherwise very good. The first iteration of this community cookbook, which was reissued in 1934, 1940, and 1948. Contains a wide variety of recipes - beans, beverages, cakes, chicken, doughnuts and fritters, fish, Italian paste, pickling, pork, salads, soup, vegetables, etc. - including the grand officers' favorite recipes. In each case, the contributor is identified alongside her recipe. For example, Florencia Sepulreda of Los Angeles supplied a recipe for La Brujita's Mexican Beans. Also provides a selection of helpful hints for the young housewife.
