Item description from seller

First edition. Nineteen newspaper articles describing Kipling's life in an area of India semi-independent from British rule. 1000 copies printed and bound with all but 100 reportedly destroyed when Kipling suppressed the book's release but bibliographer estimates there are more. Publisher's purple stamp with "27 Nov 91" dispatch date on endpaper and signature of A. R. Lawrence with short illegible notation and date "25/12/91" on pastedown. Good or better with first gathering literally holding by a thread and covers somewhat soiled and quite possibly touched up. Housed in custom top-loading two-piece sliding blue-and-red cloth slipcase backed in red leather with five raised bands and gilt-stamped lettering and design. Very attractive.

Store description

The Quill & Brush was established in 1976 by Allen and Patricia Ahearn as an open store carrying first editions and fine art. At present it is by appointment only and housed in the home of the Ahearn's eldest daughter, Beth Ahearn Fisher, who is carrying on the family bookselling tradition. Our current stock of approximately 3,500 books consists mainly of first editions of American and English Literature including Mysteries and Detective Stories, Science Fiction, Children's and Illustrated Books. We also collectible books in all fields. Over the years, we have published more than 200 individual Author Price Guides; and Allen and Patricia authored the well-regarded books on book collecting, "Collected Books: The Guide to Identification and Values" (4th ed., 2011) and "Book Collecting 2000: A Comprehensive Guide."
