The award-winning Burke's hard-to-find third novel features Hack Holland, Texas lawyer, ex-POW, candidate for Congress, who, almost unintentionally, becomes involved in a difficult civil rights case in the Rio Grande Valley that tests his courage and integrity; boards and text are clean, tight, square; dustjacket is intact with no chipping but shows a one-inch closed tear at top of front panel, a 3 x 4" irregularly-shaped stain midway on spine and front panel, other minor soiling. A work that foreshadows Burke's later bestselling success as a mystery-crime writer. Scarce. Collectable.
