VG/VG (book- gift insc. in ink to ffep. Light foxing to edges of pages.Boards clean with negligible shelf wear and no bumps. Dust jacket- non price clipped- cover prive 5/-. two small closed tear of 7 and 5mm approx. to top front panel, Chip to head at rear spine fold of 12.x12mm approx (inverted right angle triangle) which takes out the upright of "L" and the apex of "A" in title. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair. Nina K. Brisley (illustrator). 1st Edition. States 'First Published' 1943. Cloth unfaded and only slight rubbing to corners, some spine lean, no foxing or such, just a handful of faint freckles on fore-edge. Name on fly. Wrapper present but very ragged and chipped. All corners chipped and torn, largest chip is a 2-inch triangle. The spine top is very ragged and curled, though if you uncurl it all the title lettering is present. The front panel is missing half the words lavender and chalet. Inside flap priceclipped. Paper rubbed and moderately age darkened. Book Production War economy standard sysbol, so this is a thin (but not too thin) book. Even in the war, Chambers kept back their very best paper for Brent-Dyer printings. Seller Inventory # 018043
