Sadleir refers to the novel as a pathological study of one man's descent into madness. The bottom corners of the boards gently bumped, volume two's front board with minor spotting, leaves show light scattered foxing and one small gathering in volume two has come loose from its bottom stab stitch, but remains securely attached to the binding.
