About this Item
Presumed First Edition (I couldn't find a date). In English and Japanese. Once listed, this will be the Only copy for sale anywhere on the Internet. I purchased it from the home of the former Assistant Secretary Of War (World War II) and High Commissioner of Postwar Germany John J. McCloy. He had rather eclectic tastes and certainly the money to stay at luxury hotels. He did not write his name in this book. The book runs 32 pages. There are color photographs on just about every page. Befitting the high quality of the hotel, the book is in excellent condition. I would doubt it was released with a dust jacket. You can see the covers in the photos. They are clean. The only wear I see is a few surface scratches. The guilt lettering and design on the front cover, and the guilt lettering on the rear cover are both bright. The edges and corners are in very good shape. The page edges look quite clean. The book is square and very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages and nicely tight covers as well. The interior of the book looks pretty much perfect. The textured inside covers and end papers are exceptionally clean. The pages are glossy. They too are exceptionally clean. I don't see any soiling. No creasing. No markings. No attachments. And no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. The book is basically a classy brochure with professional photographs of the hotel. There is a short reference to the history of the hotel. For what it's worth, McCloy was involved in the decision-making around the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. He argued against it. He supported and defended the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II. Seller Inventory # 003876
