Item description from seller

A bright example of the first edition of this collection of two plays by W. B. Yeats, both of which are based on Irish legend. The uncommon first trade edition of this uncommon work. Wade 56. W. B. Yeats brings together two verse plays written for the Irish National Theatre in this volume. Both draw on early Irish prose romances: 'The King"s Threshold' concerns a poet's conflict with a king over the status and authority of poetry, culminating in a hunger strike, while 'On Baile"s Strand' reworks the legend of Cuchulain and his tragic encounter with his unrecognised son. In the publisher's original cloth backed paper covered boards. Boards bright. Back strip a touch age toned, as is spine label, with small loss to spine label. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright, with only the odd spot. Gatherings unopened. Very Good.
