Add to basketKim, Rudyard Kipling, Macmillan and Co Ltd, 1901, First Edition Listed on the BBC's The Big Read Poll in 2003 as one of the UK's best-loved novels, the story unfolds against the backdrop of The Great Game, the political conflict between Russia and Britain in Central Asia and centres on Kim, the orphaned son of an Irish soldier and a poor Irish mother who have both died in poverty. With no reference to previous printings this is the very first edition of Kim. The photograph Zam-Zammah is fully protected by an in-tact tissue paper and the book is illustrated throughout with black and white photographs. There is a near owners name, date and red tick to the front end paper. In good condition, the binding is straight and tight and the gold lettering on the spine bright. There are marks to front and back boards and shelf wear to the top and bottom edges of the spine. The toned end papers pages are free marks and tears. The top edge retains its original gold tint. Hard to find as a First edition, especially in good condition, making it an impressive addition to a library or a wonderful gift. Will be dispatched carefully wrapped in bubblewrap and a cardboard box.
