First Hard Case printing, January 2009, so stated. Hard Case Crime #051. A new, unread copy. The book was originally published by Monarch in 1961 as "Fidel Castro Assassinated." Block used the pseudonym Lee Duncan, a name adopted for this novel alone and is the rarest of Block’s books. Cover Illustration by Sharif Tarabay. There were five of them, each prepared to kill, each with his own reasons for accepting what might well be a suicide mission. The pay? $20,000 apiece. The mission? Find a way into Cuba and kill Castro. This breathtaking thriller, originally published the year before the Cuban Missile Crisis. Killing Castro follows a ragtag bunch of mercs to Cuba on a mission to put ol' Fidel down. It's as hard-boiled as you'll get, our heroes as low down and dirty as our villains, and you get something of a history lesson thrown in for good measure, alternate chapters offering an oral history of Fidel's rise to power.
