Item description from seller

Vidal's sixteenth novel is set a few years in the future when a man claiming to be the Hindu god Kalki appears in Katmandu. According to Hindu mythology, Kalki's appearance signals the destruction of all mankind except for a few Kalki followers, who will begin a new race of man. Soon Kalki's followers are preaching mankind's imminent destruction in all the world's cities. But all may not be what it seems. This Kalki turns out to be an American, an ex-GI from New Orleans named Kelly, a gifted chemist and an expert on chemical and biological warfare, who may be using religion to hide an international drug ring. Then again, the drug ring may be a front for Kelly/Kalki's plot to destroy the world. Previous owner's inscription in the upper corner of the front paste down, o/w boards and text are clean and unmarked, tight and square; the dustjacket is price-clipped, o/w a bit of rubbing but no other significant flaws.
