About this Item

Description:

First impression of the true first edition. Very good in tan cloth-covered boards with gilt titles to spine. Head and tail of spine slightly rubbed. Tiny nick to outer cloth on bottom edge of front board. Very light unobtrusive sporadic foxing to prelims and rear free endpapers. Interior pages clean. No inscriptions. Spine tight. In a very good colour-illustrated price-clipped dustwrapper. Very small loss to corners of dustwrapper. Small shallow chip to head of spine of dustwrapper. Short closed tear to top edge of front panel of dustwrapper. Small chip to top edge of front panel of dustwrapper. Edges of dustwrapper slightly rubbed and creased. No fading. Rear panel of dustwrapper slightly discoloured (being white background). Spine of dustwrapper slightly faded. Spine and front panel of dustwrapper bright. 206mm x 130mm. 147 pages. ***'This is a detailed analysis of Kafka's novel The Castle, followed by a note on The Trail which points to the resemblance between the two books. Mr Gray's starting-point is the patient investigation of what the novel says and does.---***The Castle is not an allegory in which every component 'stands' for some simple thing or quality; it has to be entered and moved about in, the parts referred to each other, the resonances listened to. ---***The Castle is a great work in itself and also has relationships with others in other languages. Mr Gray's exemplary method makes his book valuable to any serious reader of literature.' (Quote from inside front of dustwrapper blurb). ***First impression of the true first edition complete in its original 1950s dustwrapper. Of interest to academics and scholars and collectors of literary first editions about Franz Kafka. Uncommon. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc. Seller Inventory # 3733

Paperback. Condition: Fair. Dust Jacket Condition: None as issued. Clean, solid copy with a few pages with underlining, but mostly unmarked text. Bend across spine causes this book to not lay flat. Cover has moderate surface and edge wear, with a wrinkle on front from the bend across the spine. Still entirely usable, in spite of the cosmetic flaws. We are unable to ship oversize books and multi-volume sets internationally. Seller Inventory # CF41907190002
