No DJ. 203 yellowing pages good and clean with clear print with vocabulary at the back of the book. End papers show lots of pencil notes by the previous owner. Frontispiece: black and white plate Der Poreleifeid. Heath's modern language series. Intro written in English. 'Friedrich Gerstacker, "der Weitgereise", as his biographer calls him, was born in Hamburg in 1816. His life, after he reached the age of twenty-one, as largely spent in travel. His first journey was to the United States, and lasted six years, from 1837 to 1843. He visited all sections of the country, leading an adventurous life, working at half a dozen different occupations and stopping in one place only long enough to earn the necessary money to take him farther. Subsequent journeys, undertaken at intervals of every few years, took him to most of the South American countries, Mexico, CAlifornia, the Sandwich and Society Islands, Australia, Java, Egypt, Abyssinia, and ended with a final tour of North and South America. He died at Brunswick in 1872. Another black and white plate of Der Ruiner Dom. The remainder of the book is written in GERMAN.
