Item description from seller

No signatures. A little rubbing to edges of covers and ends of spines. Tidy copies. Number 4 with pencil correction "neared" end to end of fourth line of "neither". (See Autumn 1980 Number 6, page 6 for correction: "'neared' was accidentally omitted from the end of the fourth line".; First five issues of the Journal of Beckett Studies. Described as published twice a year on the copyright page, but these are actually the first 5 issues, and with on average an annual publication time. The first 3 issues are edited by James Knowlson, and issues 4 and 5 are edited by John Pilling. The first issue Winter 1976 includes the first publication of Beckett's "Ghost trio", a play for television, on pages 1-7. The third issue Summer 1978 includes a reprint of Beckett's prose "All strange away" on pages 1-9. "All strange away" had previously been published in a limited edition 1976, and was written "about 63/64". The fourth issue includes first publication of Beckett's "neither", "written by Samuel Beckett in September 1976 to be set to music by Morton Feldman," on a preliminary page (the leaf before page 1). The fifth issue includes the first publication of an extract from a work in progress by Beckett, "Heard in the Dark 2" on pages 7-8. All issues includes articles and reviews related to Beckett, by various contributors. There are reviews of both books and play productions. All volumes in uniform black card covers, with different black-and-white photographic illustrations on each front cover. Page dimensions: 208 x 147mm.
