Item description from seller

Written by the then-General Superintendent of Schools for Chicago & an international literacy teacher/program developer of literacy efforts around the world, this book's title plays on the concerns about child literacy first raised in 1955 with Rudolf Flesch's book "Why Johnny Can't Read." In 156 pages. A FIRST EDITION, First Printing, from 1982, this trade paperback is a review copy with a typewritten letter tucked in from the publisher to a Dr. Rosemary George at UNESCO in Paris, France, compliments of the author, to inspire their own reading instruction programs. Condition is Near Fine: brand new & unopened, but with fading to extremities & a small dampstain to head of spine blurring over to front cover--no impact on interior. Our photos depict the Exact book you will receive, never "stock" images of books we don't actually have! Same day shipping on all orders received Weekdays by 2 pm (Pacific time); later orders, weekends & holidays ship very next business day.
