Item description from seller

First English Translation. Publishers cloth in original dustwrapper. With typographical head and tail ornaments and folding frontispiece plate. Book design by William Kiesel. A near fine dustwrapper and book. Slightest signs of wear to extremities. Binding firm, tight, and intact. Internal pages clean and bright. No inscriptions. Originally published in Latin in 1617, this is the first definitive English translation of Maier’s renowned allegorical dialogue. The narrative takes the form of a satirical "conference of the birds" wherein an assembly of cantankerous avians defame the Owl (symbolising Hermetic Science), culminating in her vindication by a Phoenix acting as judge.
