Author: Jenny Robertson (Scottish children's author, 1930s?2020s)
Jenny Robertson was a prolific Scottish writer known for her clear, engaging retellings of Bible stories for children. While raising young children and caring for her mother, she began writing for Scripture Union and Ladybird Books. Her work includes The Encyclopaedia of Bible Stories, the Ladybird Bible series (with the strapline ?Simply told ? simply beautiful?), The Ladybird Bible Storybook (1983 compilation), and The Ladybird New Testament. Many of her books were translated into multiple languages and used in churches, schools, and homes worldwide. Her style emphasizes accessibility, vivid storytelling, and faithfulness to the biblical narrative, making complex events approachable for young readers.
Illustrator: Alan Parry
Alan Parry is a renowned British illustrator celebrated for his vibrant, detailed, full-color artwork in children's books, particularly the Ladybird Bible series. His illustrations for this volume feature dramatic, expressive scenes with rich landscapes, architectural details of ancient Jerusalem, emotional character portrayals, and dynamic action (e.g., the triumphal entry, Temple cleansing, and Garden of Gethsemane). Parry?s work combines warmth and drama, perfectly complementing Robertson?s text and helping bring the final week of Jesus? life to life for children. He collaborated with Robertson and Ladybird/Scripture Union on multiple titles in the series.
This is a scarce first-edition copy of Jesus in Danger (Ladybird Bible Book series, number ~19/20 in the sequence), jointly published by Scripture Union and Ladybird Books in 1979. It retells the dramatic events of the last week of Jesus? life?from the triumphal entry into Jerusalem on a donkey, through the cleansing of the Temple, the widow?s mite, the Last Supper, foot-washing, betrayal by Judas, and the arrest in Gethsemane?in simple, engaging language ideal for children aged 5?10. The book emphasizes themes of courage, sacrifice, love, and faith.
