A completely revised and fully-updated third edition of the most comprehensive guide to warships available to the general public.
Since the first edition of this book, published in 1996, there have been major changes to the world’s navies. A new generation of warships is entering service, replacing the fleets built up during the Cold War. Recognizing this evolution in sea combat, this new edition is completely up-to-date and modern in its coverage of all types of warships.
Jane’s Warship Recognition Guide provides technical specifications from the renowned Jane’s Fighting Ships (published since 1898 and the acknowledged world leader in naval reference). The new format of this edition also allows for additional warships and information to be featured.
Over 200 classes of warship are covered with:
• Class and ship names
• Weapons system and radars
• Detailed line drawings
• Full page photographs of every warship
• Key recognition features
This book maintains the Jane’s standard as the best military guides around.
Robert Hutchinson was defence correspondent for the Press Association, Britain's national news agency, in 1976-1983, before moving to Jane's as one of the team that launched the prestigious Jane's Defence Weekly in 1984. Three years later he became Publishing Director of Jane's Information Group, responsible for a broad range of defence magazine, book and newsletter titles. After leaving Jane's at the end of 1997, he has written a number of books on defence issues, including Jane's Submarines, published earlier this year by HarperCollins. He broadcasts weekly on two Washington DC radio stations on geopolitical matters as well as continuing to write for a number of publications and teaching journalistic techniques. Hutchinson is also vice-chairman of the Defence, Press and Broadcasting Advisory Committee, the system which offers advice to British media on reporting on national security issues.
