All four volumes are like new. The slipcase has very minor light shelf wear. John Weir’s four‑volume edition brings together the full range of James K. Baxter’s prose, revealing the breadth of his thinking beyond the poetry for which he is best known. His essays explore literature, politics, Catholicism, Māori–Pākehā relations, communal living, and the responsibilities of the artist, while his journalism and public statements show the sharp, restless mind that made him both admired and controversial. Weir’s introductions and notes provide context for each period of Baxter’s life, clarifying the circumstances behind key pieces and drawing together material long scattered across newspapers, magazines, pamphlets, and archives. The result is an authoritative, comprehensive portrait of Baxter as a thinker and commentator, and an essential resource for understanding mid‑twentieth‑century New Zealand cultural life.…
