Item description from seller

First UK edition (originally published in Holland in 1984). Hardcover book . Cloth and colour pictorial dustjacket reproducing art work by Klaasse. 192pp, folio. With full page reproductions in plates throughout of Piet Klaasse's pastel drawings, mostly in colour, and some in the text. Each image was done at a performance by the jazz or blues artist, and is accompanied by a short text by Klaasse. The main text on jazz and blues history accompanies the images, with biographical accounts of each artist, and gives recommended recordings. Dizzy Gillespie has contributed a brief text at start. Musicians include Miles Davis, Gillespie, Dave Brubeck, Dexter Gordon, Benny Goodman, Stan Getz, John Lee Hooker, Sarah Vaughan, Sippie Wallace and many others. Some have written notes to the artist on his artworks. The art captures the informality and individuality of playing the music. A visual feast of a book and a celebration of the musicians. A Fine copy. Pictures available.
