204pp + 8pp publisher's list. 6.6 inches. No dw. Maroon cloth, blind-stamped front and back with elaborate publisher's logo and line border, titles gilt on spine. Rubbed at spine extremities, lightly bumped corners, spine is slightly sunned. All-coral edges. Internally, green epp, tiny photo attached to pastedown. Owner's name on titlepage. Titlepage and next few pages foxed, rest of the interior is bright and clean, with a few pencil annotations, and occasional foxing marks. Illustrated with diagrams and small engravings. On the essential phenomena of heat: Expansion of solids, liquids, gases, evaporation, liqufaction, radiation, etc. The scarce First Edition of 1869, in a privately owned volume.
